Masonry Fireplace Construction

A masonry fireplace is a system: footing, hearth, firebox, throat, damper, smoke chamber, flue and chimney, each sized to work with the others. We build the whole system, line the firebox with firebrick, set a damper that closes tight and run a flue liner that protects the masonry and carries smoke away.

We build traditional brick fireplaces, stone fireplaces to the ceiling, Rumford designs, corner fireplaces and gas-ready fireplaces, and we finish them with mantels, hearths and surrounds that suit the room. Many Nashville homes have a fireplace as the focal point of the living room, and new ones are often designed with the stone or brick carried across the whole wall.

FAQ

Common questions about fireplace construction

How long before I can use a new fireplace?

Masonry needs time to cure. We tell you when it is ready and how to light the first fires gently.

Can a fireplace be added to a house that does not have one?

Often yes, depending on the structure and layout. We look at the plans and tell you what is possible.

Wood or gas?

Wood gives the classic experience, and gas is convenient and clean. We build for either and explain the differences.
