Chimney Flashing & Waterproofing

Most chimney leaks start where the chimney meets the roof. Roofing tar and caulk fail within a season or two, so we replace them with metal: step flashing woven into the shingles, counterflashing cut into the mortar joints above it and a cricket on the uphill side where debris and water collect.

We also apply breathable water repellents to brick and stone, which keep rain out while letting moisture escape, and we repoint joints before sealing. Across Nashville, heavy rain events and freeze cycles test every chimney, and proper flashing is the quiet detail that keeps ceilings dry.

What you get

Done right, from the first walk-through

01

Metal flashing

Step flashing and counterflashing replace tar and caulk.

02

Cricket on the high side

A small roof behind the chimney sheds water around it.

03

Cut into the joints

Counterflashing is set into mortar joints, not just stuck on.

04

Breathable repellent

Water stays out and moisture can still escape.

  3. 3

    Seal and protect

We repoint, apply repellent and check the work.

FAQ

Common questions about flashing & waterproofing

Why does my chimney leak even with new flashing?

Water can also enter through the crown, cracked joints or porous brick, so we check the whole stack.

Is chimney sealer a good idea?

A breathable repellent can help on sound masonry. It does not fix failed joints or crowns, so those are repaired first.

Do you coordinate with roofers?

Yes. We work with your roofer so the flashing and the shingles work together.
