Limewash, Staining & Brick Finishes

Painted brick often traps moisture, but limewash and mineral stains soak into the surface and let it breathe. Limewash gives a soft, chalky color that ages beautifully, mineral stain deepens and unifies brick color and a thin mortar wash, often called German smear, gives a hand-plastered look.

We prepare the surface, repair joints, test the finish on a hidden area and apply in thin, even coats. Many Nashville homes have orange or mismatched brick that comes alive with a soft white or warm gray finish, and for tired chimneys and fireplaces a limewash can change the whole feel of a room. We also remove old paint when a finish has failed.

FAQ

Common questions about limewash & brick finishes

Is limewash the same as paint?

No. Limewash is mineral-based and soaks in, while paint forms a film. Limewash is more breathable.

Can limewash be removed?

It can be softened and weathered, and it wears down gradually. We explain what to expect.

Can you remove paint from brick?

Yes, with gentle chemical strippers and low-pressure rinsing, testing first.
